Dia de los muertos retablo

Día de los Muertos is a celebration of expression in many ways. Not only is it dedicated to remembering and honoring those that have passed before us, it is also centrally focused on the artistic expression of the living through the creation of ofrendas, costumes, cooking etc. DEMA artists studied the culture and history of Dia de los muertos and then chose a loved one who they had lost to depict in their retablo.

Printing Skyscrapers

We used cardboard scraps recycled from old boxes to print different kinds of lines on our paper. Students talked about skyscrapers and then using their cardboard pieces they printed unique skyscraper designs.

Using analagous color scheme to paint skyscraper

Students learned about analogous color schemes, tints. They one pair to work with and were challenged to mix as many colors as they could from the 4 paint colors provided. Students used their new colors to fill in their skyscraper prints.
