Brief Description

Dia de los muertos metal cabeza

The most important symbol linked with el Día de los Muertos is the calaca (skeleton) and/or cabeza (skull). Unlike the scary association used for Halloween, calacas are depicted in a humorous light.  They are often shown getting married, playing in a band, or in any number of everyday situations.  They express a whimsical approach to death and help the living embrace the circle of life. Students created designs for their cabeza and then transfered it to metal. Lines were impressed (Repousse) and then color was added with sharpie markers.
